The Beach, Las Vegas. 365 Convention Center Drive Las Vegas 1-702-731-1925 Admission: Men $10; ladies free |
The Beach: It's out, and the people have spoken! Voted Number #1 Nightclub and Number #1 Singles Bar in Las Vegas as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal's "Best of Las Vegas Readers Poll". Every year Las Vegas' largest newspaper runs a readers poll to determine what places/things we Las Vegans' like to do and go. |
|
And it's unanimous, "The Beach" nightclub, and we take two categories this year. Usually we take (usually as in nine years in a row) best "Singles Bar", but this year we add "Best Nightclub" which in a town full of some of the best most extravagant clubs and lounges in the world is a great honor. Below I have posted what was written in the review. The Beach Night Club Las Vegas. |

Cleopatra's Barge in Caesars Palace 3570 Las Vegas Blvd S. (702) 731-7110 Weekend nights, the place goes fairly ablaze with formidable R&B songstress Anita Sarawak and high-wattage pop machine Rhythm Nation. With no cover (though a two-drink minimum is politely enforced) and decently priced drinks, the Barge has somewhat successfully reinvented itself as a dance hotspot. The club's service is solid, the crowd is not too obnoxiously hip, and the atmosphere is lively. In short, the Barge has been reborn. Cleopatra--the young, hip, nightclubbing Cleo, not the later empire-building power-mama--would surely approve. Cleopatra's Las Vegas. |

Fontana Bar at the
Bellagio (702) 693-7111 This dark and cozy lounge is a throwback to the classy, adult Vegas lounge scene. Despite the velvet rope and elegantly attired hostesses, the bar's early hours are filled with the shorts-in-any-season crowd. Once the sun sets, the Fontana emerges as a spacious, yet intimate, upscale lounge. Classic cocktailing becomes a high art here. Beauties like the sidecar and the metropolitan (sweetened with rock-candy syrup) are available. Significantly tasty options include the fresh peach Bellini and the Casino cocktail, a gin martini sweetened with various fruit liqueurs. Fontana Bar Las Vegas. |

Jet Nightclub at the
Mirage (702) 792-7900 The group behind Mist, Fix, and Light has produced Jet, a giant 15,000-square-foot, multi-level nightspot. If you can get past the hordes of people in disorganized lines outside, you'll find three unique rooms designed using wood, stone, and arching steel. Each room has its own dance floor, DJ and sound system. The main room features rock, hip-hop and popular dance; the second has house; and the third is a mix. A one-of-a-kind light and laser grid adds to the club's posh vibe. Jet Night Club Las Vegas. |

Every evening at 8pm (except Sundays), clubbers enjoy the Fashionistas erotic show that features aerobatic actors and dancers in flashy costumes. Light at the Bellagio (702) 693-8300 Light is a posh dance club caters to sophisticated gentlemen, lovely ladies and the Hollywood "A" list. The second bar in a franchise that began in New York City, the lavish Las Vegas outpost of Light mirrors the minimal chic design and velvet rope exclusivity of its trendy Midtown predecessor. Take either the main escalator or a private elevator into an expansive, rectangular space festooned with billowing, purplish-red curtains, long rows of candles and two tiers of reserved tables. The more intimate, raised lounge features its own private bar, while lower-level tables surround the recessed dance floor, which forgoes the showy gimmicks and gadgetry found at other prominent Sin City clubs. Dignified gentlemen who don't know Jay-Z from J.Lo pay exorbitant fees for VIP treatment and the chance to impress hip-hop-loving women many years their junior. The vibe has been off the hook since opening night, drawing a regular pool of major and minor celebs, from bad-boy actor Leonardo DiCaprio to party girl Paris Hilton. Light Club, Las Vegas. |

Ra at the Luxor (702) 262-4000 Ra is smaller than other clubs--only one level--but it makes up for it with a mélange of sexy dancers, throbbing funk, and some of the wildest and most psychedelic video mixing in town. Wednesday nights are Pleasure Dome, featuring underground house music, and Thursdays are Ladies Night, with free admission for the gals. Ra's dance club dress code is a little more relaxed than at Club Rio, making displays of flesh a little more pervasive. The crowd features more locals than Rio or Studio 54, too, making it a little less of a see-and-be-seen joint and more of a place to lose yourself in the music. Ra, Las Vegas. |

Rain in the Desert at
Palms Outside, the scene is chaos--swarms of starry eyed tourists and well-connected locals jockey for position in one of many poorly defined lines. Once granted access, club-goers travel through a neon-lit, mirrored, tunnel-like entryway--a hint at the spectacle further inside. The Rain dance club is a deceptively large 25,000 square feet, but the main room's relatively small, elevated dance floor steals the show. Accessible via two drawbridges, it features elaborate water displays, pyrotechnics, fog clouds and overhead lighting, which oscillates to the ferocious beats of house, hip-hop and Top 40 mixes. Circling above are spacious red- and gold-beaded VIP cabanas and private skyboxes. Less exclusive and much larger than neighboring Ghost Bar, Rain offers a higher-energy alternative to the popular lounge. It's also one of the hottest dance clubs in town and everyone wants in, especially on Saturday nights and during special events, like artists of the moment concerts. Rain, Las Vegas. |

Rum Jungle at the Mandalay Bay 3950 Las Vegas Blvd South Las Vegas, NV (702) 632-7777 Admission: Mon, Thu-Sat: $20; Sun, Tue-Wed: $10 Rum Jungle's cover charge is steep, and the drinks are a tad expensive, even for standard imports like Corona, a glass of cabernet or the club's renowned rum concoctions. But refreshingly, there's not a whiff of the big-city attitude you might expect at a club that draws beautiful people in herds. Walls of fire greet clubbers in front, while sheets of water pour down glass partitions around the room. Rum Jungle's staff is friendly and brisk, whipping up drinks at an amazing clip, considering the number of patrons continuously beached against the bar. People-watching is half the fun here. Expect modern day dandies in gold specs and silk suits, buxom beauties and pretty waifs grooving on the dance floor. Don't stare unless you've got an earth-shaking pickup line. Rum Jungle, Las Vegas. |

Studio 54 at the MGM Grand (702) 891-7254 Studio 54 at the MGM Grand is Sin City's re-creation of the infamous '70s nightclub will keep you on the lookout for Warhol and Bianca Jagger. Any attempt to evoke the magic of the original Studio 54 is bound to fail. However, this club has come into its own as a place to get down, not as a themed joint. Its popularity with tourists is proof. But don't ask why this infamous slice of New York history is inside the MGM Grand instead of New York, New York across the street. That's just one of the mysteries of Vegas. Studio 54 is a monstrous dance club (four levels, each with a separate dance floor and bar) is packed with die-hard dancing queens and kings sweating to classic and current disco. Studio 54's promo night, Eden, features progressive sounds. Studio 54 Las Vegas. |

Tangerine at Treasure
Island (702) 894-7111 Admission: $20; ladies $10; local ladies free Tangerine is an intimate lounge and sultry club heat up the Strip with beautiful bartenders and burlesque shows. Tangerine Las Vegas guests sip daiquiris and enjoy steel-drum tunes in the daytime. But at night, it's all about the eye candy. Guests mingle and nurse cocktails on the outdoor deck overlooking the cove, where the sexy Sirens of T.I. seduce. Indoors, DJs spin a mix of rock and dance while beautiful bodies press flesh among the orange, amber and earth-toned decor. Nightly burlesque shows tantalize with songs and stripteases that have performers revealing their barely there garter belts. Tangerine Club Las Vegas. |

V Bar at the Venetian The smoked glass wall around the perimeter of V Bar beckons passers-by to peek between its gaps. Inside is an open room, minimally lit with amber lights and candles. Plush, double-sided chaises with beautiful people drinking brightly colored cocktails line the interior walls. A long, elegant bar with red back-lighting is home to generous bartenders. Soulful R&B and jazzy house pour over the crowd, delicately adding to the din of conversation. The sophisticated set comes for the cocktails, which have a lip-pursing pinch--a reminder that you're getting your money's worth in liquor. The absinthe-esque Smack martini and the yummy-as-a-Jolly-Rancher Crystal martini will end your search for the next big elixir. Beer drinkers can enjoy Amstel Light, Coors Light, Heineken and Sierra Nevada, as well as more obscure selections like La Fin du Monde and Pyramid Hefeweizen. V Club Las Vegas. |
