Brief Description:
In a city
that keeps raising the bar for sheer luxury, the Wynn,
monolithic in both name and appearance steals the show.
In his latest project, Steve Wynn, the developer most
associated with Las Vegas glitz and showmanship and
the creator of the Mirage, Treasure Island, and Bellagio,
shirks the campy, theme park trend of other resorts
for a new one: haute Las Vegas. At a price tag of $2.7
billion, this is the most expensive hotel project ever
undertaken, a fact you'll be reminded of at every turn.
First, there's the Madison Avenue lineup of boutiques:
Chanel, Dior, Gaultier, de la Renta. Then, there's the
collection of chefs, including New York's Daniel Boulud,
legendary Japanese chef Takashi Yagahashi, and France's
most renowned pastry chef, Frédéric Robert. There's
a Ferrari car dealership, a theater in the round showroom,
an exclusive championship golf course right outside
the hotel's back door, a poolside cabana-style casino
(play blackjack while you swim!), and a snazzy spa offering
everything from sake and rice body treatments to 80-minute
feng shui inspired "good luck rituals." It's a best
of everything list under one roof, a playground for
jet setters, high-rollers, or anyone who wants to feel
like one.

HOTEL: The princely rooms in this monument to Vegas
glamour average a whopping 650 square feet, are decked
out with replicas of pieces from Steve Wynn's acclaimed
art collection, and offer spectacular views through
floor to ceiling windows. Rest your head at night on
custom pillow-top beds with 320 thread count linens,
and stay plugged into the world with cordless phones
and high-speed Internet. The super posh Tower Suites
Parlor and Salon units have use of a separate pool and
lanai and have such opulent amenities as granite wet
bars, separate powder rooms, 42-inch flat screen TVs,
walk in closets, and individual bedside controls for
lighting and draperies. Even relatively minor touches,
such as richly appointed armchairs with ottomans and
giant, fluffy Turkish towels, speak to the sheer sumptuousness
of this place.
CASINO:
The bad news or good news on the Wynn casino depends
on how much money you walk in with. You'll see $500
minimum blackjack tables on the regular casino floor,
not just inside the high rollers casino (which is adjacent
to a casino lounge and shares the ambience of its jazz
trio). If you can pony up the cash for tables with a
$100 buy in or higher, though, you'll have some of the
best rules possible: the games are hand-dealt and honor
the the old-fashioned 1.5 payouts on a natural. During
the day or early evening, you can find $15 tables, but
they're dealt from a shoe or automatic card shuffler.
Lest you dismiss Wynn Las Vegas as completely snooty,
rest assured that a healthy number of one-cent slots
are out in a prominent area, not shuffled off to some
remote corner. The multi-level poker room unfolds near
the exotic car dealership, and there is a nice bar area
next to the sports book, where plush chairs line the
individual viewing cubicles augmenting the usual big-screen
TVs.
